Syrian peace proposals fired off to Israel
Mongolia News.Net Saturday 6th September, 2008
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has spoken of a list of proposals sent to Israel via Turkish mediators.
He has said he is awaiting Israel’s response to six points aimed at laying the groundwork for direct peace talks between the former foes.
Assad, speaking at a four-way summit in Damascus with French, Turkish and Qatari dignitaries has said the points could pave the way for direct talks, “after a new US administration that believes in the peace process takes office."
Israel and Syria, which have technically been at war for 60 years, launched indirect negotiations brokered by Turkey in May, eight years after talks were frozen over the fate of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

unrealistic
It is unrealistic to demand from any country (besides Israel, of cause :)), that after attacking it with the goal to destroy it, being then beaten back and losing to it own territory, to return this territory to the original attacker. Peace with Sirya after all can be only rom the position of power, otherwise it will be just a pice of paper. In last 35 years, peace with syria was effective. US, for example, does not need to establish any Peace agreement with Madagaskar, to avoid an attack from it.

Syrian peace proposals fired off to Israel
Bob, you’re a dickhead. How unrealistic is getting your own land back? it’s a reaonable demand that if met could lead to (let’s hope) a real peace, which is surely what all sides want. If the Israeli side is prepared to give back the Golan Heights then they obviously have come to the same conclusion. But politics is politics, and international relations can be tricky. At least Assad has the sense not to expect too much progress until after the 'terrorist' Bush has left office.

Guys...
Everybody wants peace and their territory. Israel only took the Golan Heights after being repeatedly attacked from there and kept them for strategic dpeth and position. Question: Will Israel be attacked from the Heights again? I for one fail to detect a groundswell of peace and goodwill in the region at this time.

Richard I do love you.
I was reading this and just happened to realize that it is almost time for two ends to meet in the middle, Pres. Assad is good at causing me to think. I think I just won 2 or 3 of my own problems at home while reading this.
Talk is always good even if it’s a disagreement about the facts. This Syrian Pres. is starting to really impress me.
He is his fathers son but check it out he will have it, why? They’re still just squatters on his property, no stymie, he just keeps moving.
Like totally cool, dude.
