GARDEZ, Afghanistan, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Six Taliban militants were killed in separate self-planted mine blasts in eastern Afghanistan's Paktia and neighboring Paktika provinces on Saturday, an army statement released here said.

According to the statement, a group of Taliban insurgents were planting a mine on a road in Ahmad Khil district, Paktia province, in the wee hours of Saturday to target security forces convoy. However, the device exploded prematurely killing four insurgents on the spot.

In a similar incident two more insurgents were killed after their mine went off prematurely in Khoshamand district of Paktika province on early morning, the statement said.

Taliban militants who are largely relying on roadside and suicide bombings have yet to make comment.
