MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A massive car bomb explosion rocked an Afghan National Army (ANA) military camp in eastern Wardak province on early Thursday, causing destruction, a local official confirmed.
"The big explosion occurred outside the camp which also acts as a logistic department of ANA at about 4:00 a.m. local time. The camp is located in Sayyed Abad district," spokesman of provincial government, Muhibullah Sharifzai, told Xinhua.
The explosion caused a crater and severely damaged the camp, several shops in the district's bazaar and several nearby houses, he said.
"There is fear of casualties. Further details will be shared with media later after more information is collected," the source said.
Local sources said the truck bomb was driven by a militant but security forces opened fire and the vehicle detonated before reaching the complex.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
