TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan has allowed computer game clubs to resume operation from Dec. 1 to help the development of electronic sports in the country, Uzbek Health Ministry said Saturday.

Computer gaming clubs that have remained closed since March when Uzbekistan first imposed a lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak, should comply with the requirements of the Special Republican Commission to Combat Coronavirus, it said. (Uzbekistan-COVID-19)

UNITED NATIONS -- A United Nations spokesman on Friday called for exercising restraint and avoiding escalation in the Middle East region following the assassination of top Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

"We have noted the reports that an Iranian nuclear scientist has been assassinated near Tehran today. We urge restraint and the need to avoid any actions that could lead to an escalation of tensions in the region," Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said when responding to a question related to the assassination. LOS ANGELES -- Health officials in Los Angeles County issued a new stay-home order Friday urging residents to avoid gatherings as confirmed COVID-19 cases there surged out of control.

The county's five-day average of new confirmed cases currently stands at over 4,700, forcing its health department to take additional actions. (US-COVID-19)

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 504 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Friday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 33,375.

The daily caseload stayed above 500 for the third consecutive day, growing in triple digits for 21 days running due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases. (South Korea-COVID-19)
