BEIJING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Saturday reported 1,733 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection, bringing the total number in the country to 438,069.

The DOH said 133 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 399,582. The death toll climbed to 8,526 after 17 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with the national tally standing at 151.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, no more recovery was recorded, with the total number of recovered cases at 147. There is one active case still being treated at the National Isolation Center.

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States, has shattered its daily record of COVID-19 cases the third time within a week, as the holiday season draws near.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Friday confirmed 8,860 new cases of COVID-19 and 60 new deaths in a daily release, bringing the metropolitan area's total count to 430,583 cases and death toll to 7,842.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia on Saturday confirmed 11 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the national tally to 842, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

"A total of 20,240 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across Mongolia in the past 24 hours, and 11 of them were positive," Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the surveillance department of the NCCD, said at a daily press conference.
