CAIRO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Egypt strongly condemned on Tuesday the recent terrorist attack in the Afghan capital Kabul that left two female judges dead, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

"Egypt, with its government and people, stands in solidarity with the government and people of friendly Afghanistan in the face of the series of brutal attacks that the country has recently gone through, and in confronting all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism," said the ministry in a statement.

The attack took place on Sunday, when unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at a vehicle carrying female judges on their way to the Supreme Court in Kabul.

Last week, a similar attack killed two female army officers in Balkh province in northern Afghanistan.

The wave of assassinations has been going on since the Afghan government started in September last year peace talks with the Taliban militia.

A spokesman for Taliban denied its involvement in the attacks.

Hosted by Doha, Qatar, the peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban seek to end the decades of bloodshed in Afghanistan.
