JALALABAD, Afghanistan, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Three female employees of a local TV channel were shot dead by gunmen with one woman wounded in Jalalabad city, capital of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, the local government confirmed.
"The incident occurred in Police District 1 of the city in the evening rush hour. The Jalalabad anti-criminal police have launched an investigation into the case," the government said in a statement.
The deceased were working for the Enikass TV channel stationed in Jalalabad, 120 km east of Afghanistan's capital Kabul.
The gunmen fled the scene shortly after the shooting.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. The Taliban militant group denied its involvement in the incident.
Malala Maiwand, a female TV anchor of Enikass, and her driver were killed in a similar incident in December last year.
Seven Afghan journalists and media workers were killed in 2020 amid the deteriorating security situation, according to the Afghan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC), an independent media safety group.
