TASHKENT, April 22 (Xinhua) -- An international forum for leading experts to share best international practices in modernizing Uzbekistan's laws has opened here Thursday.
The forum will also discuss the new challenges brought by the rapid implementation of new information technologies, and the digitalization of government systems and society, according to the country's justice ministry, the initiator of the event.
"For Uzbekistan, it has a great importance to develop digital commerce and legalize incomes (coming from online selling) ... and to increase production efficiency by introducing information technology," Uzbek Justice Minister Ruslanbek Davletov said in his opening speech.
The two-day event will also inform the international community about the judicial reforms the Central Asian country has embarked on since President Shavkat Mirziyoyev came to power in 2016, such as removing the legal burden on businesses to attract foreign investors.
A number of justice ministers from countries including Singapore, Russia and Britain, as well as officials from Central Asian countries are expected to take part in the forum via video conference.
