PanARMENIAN.Net - National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan stated that Armenia has expressed readiness to cooperate with Azerbaijan across various sectors. He made the remarks during a press briefing following a conference on ethical standards and anti-discrimination.
"We shouldn't focus solely on oil products. There must be trade in all types of goods. We're ready for that. The Crossroads of Peace initiative and all peace discourse point exactly in that direction. This is about trade in all goods; the first was wheat. The more alternative energy sources there are, whether gas or others, the better it is for Armenia," Simonyan said, according to Sputnik Armenia.
He added that Armenia should also allow Azerbaijan to benefit from exporting goods to Nakhichevan and Turkey through Armenian territory.
On December 6, during a discussion in Doha, Hikmet Hajiyev, aide to the Azerbaijani president, said the two sides were exploring the possibility of exporting oil and oil products to Armenia. On December 8, Georgia's Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced it would waive customs duties on the first batch of Azerbaijani fuel transiting to Armenia. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan called Georgia's move a gesture of commitment to the peace process.
